thermos_koiWe have received a couple of very complimentary mentions in lists of tea blogs recently. I mention them here, trying to avoid that unclean feeling that results from self-promotion. But we’re in really good company, so I feel justified in bringing the lists, and thus the other blogs that appear on the lists, to your attention. Additionally, I want to publicly thank the creators of the lists for including us on them.

The first list is by William I. Lengeman III, publisher of Tea Guy Speaks, which is a blog that you should read if you don’t already. His description of us, from the list Top Ten Tea Blogs is:

“Thoughts on a variety of tea-related topics from Cinnabar and assorted and sundry guest contributors.”

The second was compiled by Darren Spence of Wearetea.com, whose blog is called Tales From the Teashop. His description of us, from Top Ten Tea Blogs That Aren’t Trying To Sell You Something reads:

“These ladies have an encyclopaedic knowledge of tea combined with enthusiasm in abundance and a passion for storytelling. This blog should leave you informed and amused, which is no mean feat. And from what I can gather the girls have no affiliation whatsoever to a tea company.”

He is, of course correct in that we are entirely independent of any tea companies. I liked what Darren said about the list itself:

“I selected the following blogs because tea has become big business and as such tea companies purporting to be your friend are actually trying to sell you something. The following blogs (in alphabetical order) simply celebrate tea in all of its slightly quirky glory. Enjoy!”

In case you are curious, the photograph above is of the front of a glass Chinese tea thermos. It was in a window sill steeping some delicious JING Tea Mao Jian (Organic Jade Sword) green tea when I photographed it.

Congratulations! And don’t worry…I don’t view you as “unclean” for a little self-plug here and there. :)

    Dear “Gongfu Girl”,

I can’t even begin to describe how much I enjoy your blog. I’ve been reading a lot of tea blogs lately and yours has quickly become one of my favorites. It’s proved not only to be an interesting and engaging read for tea aficionados and food enthusiasts alike, but a reliable source of information as well. It’s always exciting to come upon people so passionate about something that they can’t help but share it to the world.

And because tea is, of course, the main theme here, I thought I should just let you know of an upcoming exhibit we’re having here at The Fowler Museum aptly titled “Steeped in History: The Art of Tea”. The exhibition will be on display from August 16 to November 29, 2009 and will feature everything related to tea—oil paintings, prints, photographs, ceramics, as well as other tea-serving paraphernalia, all gathered from around the world. And the best part aside from everything I’ve mentioned? Tea will be served! I’ve attached the official press release for the event and I’m hoping you’ll be able attend the exhibit and see everything for yourself (http://newsroom.ucla.edu/portal/ucla/fowler-exhibition-tells-story-93693.aspx).

We at the Fowler would also be more than grateful if you can forward this information to family and friends that might be interested in viewing the exhibition, or perhaps discuss this upcoming event in your blog/site for all of your tea-loving readers to see. I’m sure they’ll be very interested and thankful for the information you’d be able to provide regarding this. If you need more information (i.e. images, articles), please don’t hesitate to contact me via e-mail. I’d be more than happy to help you out.

Best of luck in your site, and may everything go tea-rrificly!

    Sincerely,
    Beatrice Eyales

Your exhibit looks truly fabulous. I wish I were close enough to Southern California to see it. I’ll publicize it in a blog post within the next week or two. It looks like you’ve taken the approach to tea and tea culture that I find most engaging.

And than you for your kind words and ongoing reading of our blog!
